Gold Dragon Honey started when I seen a decline in the bee’s visiting the garden in 2014. Concerned about the impact on the environment I did a bit of checking and found a lack of anybody keeping hives in the area.
So at first I approached the allotment admin to see if I could keep bees there and it was a good response but it turn out quite impractical as well as the allotment had a lot of break ins and I feared that the hives may get trashed.. Going forward I attended a bee keeping course at Martineau Gardens to see if it was something I could do, It was! Next I put a hive in my garden which seemed like a good plan at the time but soon discovered when they swarmed the small little cul-de-sac became a no go area.. oops! I then went to Hopwood Garden Centre and approached Pete the proprietor to see if there was any chance of keeping them there, result “Thanks Pete” I also now keep a couple at work in Kings Norton “Thanks Simon”
The money made from the sale of the honey is put back into the local population of bee’s as there is a on going cost to keep the hive’s running. This is me doing my bit for the bee’s the environment and my own sense of well being, so everyone's a winner. Please support your local bee’s if not by buying the Honey then maybe a little donation
All the best Garry
